Asante Gold Corp (CVE:ASE) has unveiled the final results of exploration drilling completed thus far at its Fahiakoba gold concession in Ghana, saying that with the exception of four significant gold intersections, initial sampling results were "low", yet drilling is planned to continue.
The company, in a statement released earlier today, said weak gold anomalies in core from saprolite generally accounted for the anomalous auger soil geochemical targets tested in the program.
A total of 30 drill holes were completed in two phases in the program, for 4,985 metres. Drill holes were spotted to test sections of airborne geophysical and ground auger soil geochemical anomalies.
Asante said, however, that wide zones of moderate to strongly quartz veined and carbonate alteration were noted in the program, corresponding to locally significant gold values and considered priority targets for additional drilling.
It noted that further drilling is also required along the trend to the northeast of Perseus Mining's discovery hole, located 1 km south of the Fahiakoba concession boundary, which yielded 30 metres at 2.2 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, including 4 metres at 9.0 g/t gold.
The company said that subject to financing, a program of another 3,000 metres of drilling is planned to test these new target areas. This campaign will come alongside the continued evaluation for the acquisition of other gold mining and royalty opportunities in both west and east Africa.
